This comes ahead of a June 5 deadline for a U.S. default, the prospect of which has kept markets on edge over the past week.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-cny\">China\u2019s yuan<\/a>\u00a0rose 0.2%, rebounding from six-month lows as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/caixin-manufacturing-pmi-753\">private survey<\/a>\u00a0showed that manufacturing activity in the country grew more than expected through May. The data clashed with an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/manufacturing-pmi-594\">official survey<\/a>\u00a0that showed a sustained contraction in China\u2019s biggest economic engine, although the divergence could be linked to a difference in scope between the two surveys.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Still, concerns over a slowing economic rebound in China persisted, given that the private survey only showed a marginal improvement in activity. These concerns, coupled with a string of weak daily yuan midpoint fixes by the People\u2019s Bank, had battered the Chinese currency in recent weeks.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Other Asian currencies also rose on Thursday, benefiting from some weakness in the dollar as Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker said on Wednesday that skipping a rate hike during the June 14 meeting could allow the bank more time to consider future rate decisions.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-krw\">South Korean won<\/a>\u00a0added 0.1%, although further gains were held back by weaker-than-expected\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/exports-1316\">export<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/imports-1291\">import<\/a>\u00a0data. South Korean\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/nikkei-manufacturing-pmi-785\">manufacturing activity<\/a>\u00a0also contracted in May.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-jpy\">Japanese yen<\/a>\u00a0was flat, but was trading well above recent six-month lows hit against the dollar. Stronger-than-expected\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/capital-spending-32\">capital spending data<\/a>\u00a0for the first quarter also pointed to a potential upward revision in GDP for the period.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/aud-usd\">Australian dollar<\/a>\u00a0pared early losses following the positive Chinese data, and was also supported by stronger-than-expected\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/private-new-capital-expenditure-252\">capital expenditure readings<\/a>\u00a0for the first quarter.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The U.S.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/indices\/usdollar\">dollar index<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/us-dollar-index\">dollar index futures<\/a>\u00a0fell 0.1% each in Asian trade.\u00a0 While Harker specified that the Fed could still hike rates further after a June pause, his comments triggered some profit taking in the dollar at 10-week highs.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Focus is now on U.S.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/nonfarm-payrolls-227\">nonfarm payrolls<\/a>\u00a0data, due on Friday, for more cues on monetary policy.
