{"id":576,"date":"2023-06-01T08:58:12","date_gmt":"2023-06-01T05:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/invest24world.com\/?p=576"},"modified":"2023-06-01T08:59:16","modified_gmt":"2023-06-01T05:59:16","slug":"dollar-in-demand-after-weak-chinese-activity-data-dent-risk-sentiment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/22-preview.freshtone.ru\/es\/dollar-in-demand-after-weak-chinese-activity-data-dent-risk-sentiment\/","title":{"rendered":"Dollar in demand after weak Chinese activity data dent risk sentiment"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>The U.S. dollar gained in early European trading Wednesday after weak Chinese activity data hit risk sentiment, while the U.S. debt ceiling deal cleared an important hurdle.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>At 03:55 ET (07:55 GMT), the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/indices\/usdollar\">Dollar Index<\/a>, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six other currencies, rose 0.2% to 104.300, just below the two-month high of 104.420 seen earlier in the week.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Data released earlier Wednesday showed that Chinese\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/manufacturing-pmi-594\">manufacturing activity<\/a>\u00a0shrank for a second consecutive month in May, and at a sharper pace than the prior month.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This weakness in the important manufacturing sector, which is a key driver of local growth, meant that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/chinese-composite-pmi-1913\">overall growth<\/a>\u00a0in business activity in the world\u2019s second-largest economy also contracted, hitting risk sentiment to the benefit of the safe haven dollar.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-cny\">USD\/CNY<\/a>\u00a0rose 0.3% to 7.0979, with the yuan falling to a six-month low after crossing the 7.1 level for the first time since late November.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The bill to suspend the $31.4 trillion U.S. debt ceiling advanced late Tuesday when the Republican-controlled House Rules Committee voted 7-6 to advance it to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote on Wednesday.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This makes a disastrous U.S. default less likely, but could also embolden the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/fed-interest-rate-decision-168\">Federal Reserve<\/a>\u00a0to continue raising interest rates as inflation remains elevated, further helping the dollar.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President Loretta Mester said on Wednesday, in an interview with the Financial Times, that she sees no &#8220;compelling&#8221; reason to wait to implement another interest rate hike.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Elsewhere,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/eur-usd\">EUR\/USD<\/a>\u00a0fell 0.5% to 1.0685 after the German state of North Rhine Westphalia, the most populous state in the country, recorded an annual inflation rate of 5.7% in May, considerably below the 6.8% expected and the revised prior number of 6.7%.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This news, coupled with Tuesday\u2019s drop in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/spanish-cpi-961\">Spanish consumer prices<\/a>, support the European Central Bank officials who say the continent\u2019s historic price spike is fading and interest-rate increases can soon end.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The other German states are also due to release their CPI data later Wednesday, culminating in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/german-cpi-737\">national figure<\/a>, along with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/french-cpi-1759\">French<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/italian-cpi-748\">Italian<\/a>\u00a0numbers, ahead of Thursday\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/cpi-68\">eurozone<\/a>\u00a0release.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/gbp-usd\">GBP\/USD<\/a>\u00a0fell 0.2% to 1.2384, following a 0.4% gain the previous day, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/aud-usd\">AUD\/USD<\/a>\u00a0dropped 0.4% to 0.6494, with the Aussie dollar weighed by the weak Chinese PMI numbers even as Australian data showed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/cpi-1011\">consumer inflation<\/a>\u00a0moved back towards 30-year highs in April.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-jpy\">USD\/JPY<\/a>\u00a0traded 0.2% lower to 139.47, having climbed as high as 140.93 in the previous session before a report indicated that Japanese officials &#8220;will closely watch currency market moves and respond appropriately as needed.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Source: https:\/\/www.investing.com\/news\/forex-news\/dollar-in-demand-after-weak-chinese-activity-data-dent-risk-sentiment-3094438<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. dollar gained in early European trading Wednesday after weak Chinese activity data hit risk sentiment, while the U.S. debt ceiling deal cleared an important hurdle.
