The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/indices\/usdollar\">dollar index<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/us-dollar-index\">dollar index futures<\/a>\u00a0added about 0.2% each in Asian trade.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThis weighed on most Asian currencies, with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-krw\">South Korean won<\/a>\u00a0losing 0.1%, while the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-twd\">Taiwan dollar<\/a>\u00a0shed 0.3%.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nWeak economic data from China also somewhat dented regional sentiment, although the country is reportedly set to unveil more stimulus measures later in the day.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h3>\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Japanese yen falls as BOJ conducts unscheduled bond buying<\/h3>\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-jpy\">yen<\/a>\u00a0was among the worst performers for the day, falling 0.4% and reversing a bulk of Friday\u2019s gains after the Bank of Japan (BOJ) reportedly bought about $2 billion worth of bonds in an unscheduled operation.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThe move was intended to stem a spike in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/rates-bonds\/japan-10-year-bond-yield\">Japanese bond yields<\/a>, which surged over the 0.5% level after the BOJ announced more flexibility in its yield curve control measures last week.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nBut while the yen had gained on the news, given that it heralds an eventual unwinding of the BOJ\u2019s ultra-dovish stance, analysts remained largely bearish on the Japanese currency, with differences in yields set to still fuel carry trade with the yen.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThe BOJ\u2019s bond buying operations are also set to weigh on the currency, as the bank moves to defend the informal upper limit for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/rates-bonds\/japan-10-year-bond-yield\">10-year<\/a>\u00a0yields, at 1%.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h3>\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chinese yuan slides after weak PMIs, stimulus in focus<\/h3>\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-cny\">Chinese yuan<\/a>\u00a0fell 0.5%, falling past a stronger daily midpoint fix by the People\u2019s Bank of China after data showed that the country\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/manufacturing-pmi-594\">manufacturing sector<\/a>\u00a0shrank for a fourth straight month in July.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/chinese-composite-pmi-1913\">Overall business activity<\/a>\u00a0also deteriorated, indicating that the world\u2019s second-largest economy was still struggling with a post-COVID recovery.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThe reading pushed up hopes for more stimulus measures in the country, with media reports suggesting that an announcement will be made later in the day. China\u2019s State Council also unveiled some measures aimed at boosting local consumer spending and property development.\r\n\r\n \r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h3>\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Australian dollar strengthens ahead of RBA<\/h3>\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/aud-usd\">Australian dollar<\/a>\u00a0was among the few currencies trading positive on Monday, rising 0.4%.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nFocus was largely on a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/economic-calendar\/rba-interest-rate-decision-171\">Reserve Bank of Australia<\/a>\u00a0meeting on Tuesday, with markets split over whether the bank will keep hiking rates.
